Mark attendance
How a technician checks in and out in the Technician app, why location and a selfie are needed, and what the office sees.
Attendance is how your company records that you worked today. It also feeds your salary slip.
Tap Attendance at the bottom of the screen.
Check in
Go to your work site
The app checks where you are. You have to be inside a site your office set up.
Wait for the button to turn orange
While your phone finds you, the button reads Locating... and is grey. When you are inside a site it turns orange and reads Check In.
Tap Check In
A green message confirms the site and asks for a selfie.
Take the selfie
The camera opens. Hold the phone so your face is centred and lit. Take the photo.
You are now checked in. A timer starts on the Today card, and a notification stays in your phone's tray saying Tracking your location.
Why the button will not let you check in

| Outside Zone | You are not at a work site. The card shows how far away you are, and from which site. |
| Check Out | You are already checked in. |
Other messages you may see:
- Location services are disabled. Please enable GPS. — turn location on in your phone settings.
- Location permission denied. Please grant location access in Settings. — the app needs permission. Tap Settings and allow it.
- You must be at a designated work site to check in. — go to the site.
- Photo is required for check-in. Please try again. — you closed the camera. Start again.
If the selfie is not clear
The app checks that it can see a face. The first time it cannot, it says We couldn't clearly see your face. Please retake the selfie with your face centered and well-lit. Take it again in better light.
If the second attempt also fails, you are still checked in. Your office sees a note against the record and may ask you about it.
Check out
Tap the red Check Out button at the end of your day.
You do not have to be at a site to check out. Most companies do not ask for a photo either. If yours does, the camera opens and you must take one — the message reads A check-out photo is required. Please take a photo to check out.
Location tracking stops when you check out.
If you forget to check out, your company may close the day for you at a fixed cut-off time. Your hours are counted up to that time, not to when you actually stopped. The card then reads Auto checked out at the daily cut-off.
Why you cannot edit a job
Most companies require attendance before field work. Until you check in, the job screen shows Check in to start working and every button is off. Adding parts, adding photos and filing a completion sheet are all blocked.

Fuel tracking
If your company pays you per kilometre, a dialog appears right after you check in: Start fuel tracking? Tap Start fuel tracking and photograph your odometer. The app reads the number from the photo. If it cannot, type it in.
At the end of the day, after you check out, tap Stop fuel tracking and photograph the odometer again. The app works out the distance and files the claim. You see the claim under the Expenses tab.
Your history
Scroll down to Recent History. Each row is a day. Tap one to open it.
Inside you see the entry and exit times, the site you checked in and out of, the location for each, and both selfies.
Days are marked Checked In, Completed, On Leave or Absent.
